Fluor Corporation to Build Procter & Gamble Facility Expansion

June 24, 2004

Greenville, SC /diversitybusiness.com/ Fluor Corporation today announced that it has been selected by Procter & Gamble to expand its Charmin(R) tissue and Bounty(R) towel production facility in Cape Girardeau, Mo. Fluor will perform engineering, procurement and construction services at the facility. The contract value to Fluor, which was not disclosed, was booked in the first quarter of 2003.

The expansion, needed due to the success and strong market demand for P&G's Charmin(R) tissue and Bounty(R) towel products, is scheduled for completion in late 2004. When completed, the facility will be able to produce 80,000 tons of super soft tissue and towel products annually.

"Fluor was selected to execute the Cape project based on its demonstrated capabilities in Through-Air-Drying tissue manufacturing and proven performance on numerous P&G projects," said Ken Smith, a president within Fluor's Industrial & Infrastructure group. "Other factors contributing to this award were Fluor's commitment to the Supplier Diversity Program by managing significant engineering scope through minority businesses."

In 1998, Fluor led the consortium for the prior Cape Girardeau expansion that included machine installations and converting equipment on more than 20 acres.

"Fluor's consortium partnership on the previous Cape Girardeau project achieved a safety milestone of more than four million effort hours without a lost workday incident," Smith added. "This accomplishment earned the project the P&G Construction Network Safety Flag, the first project to receive this recognition. Fluor clearly shares P&G's commitment to providing a safety culture."
