Keres Lands Federal Contracts with Department of Defense and National Nuclear Security Administration |
ALBUQUERQUE, NM, July 15, 2010 / -- On the heels of a $1 million contract award by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Keres Consulting, Inc. (Keres) today announced that it has been awarded two contracts worth a combined $13.2 million by the Department of Defense (DoD) and National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). Keres is a Native American-owned general management consulting firm with specialized expertise in energy and the environment; real property asset management; and communication and technology.
Almost six years after beginning work on the DoD Native American Lands Environmental Mitigation Program (NALEMP)[1], Keres competed successfully to renew its contract through 2014. The contract, if fully executed, is valued at approximately $10 million.
NALEMP is an initiative of the DoD Office of the Deputy Under Secretary of Defense (Installations and Environment) to mitigate environmental impacts on Indian Lands resulting from DoD activities. The nationwide program has touched more than 40 federally recognized tribes in Alaska and the lower 48 states since it was established in 1996.
Under the newly awarded contract, Keres will perform a range of tasks that support the progress and administration of the program: information gathering and tracking of environmental effects caused by DoD activities on Native Lands; Phase I and Phase II environmental site assessments; conference and exhibit support; enhancements and maintenance of the Native American Management System for Environmental Impacts website (www.namsei.com); and training support services
“NALEMP addresses the environmental health and safety of Indian Lands that have been impacted by past military operations,” said President and CEO, Timothy Chavez. “As a Native American-owned enterprise, we are grateful to continue to support this important program and the many tribes and Alaska Native Corporations it directly serves.”
In a separate federal procurement, Keres was awarded a $3.2 million, five-year utility management support services contract by the NNSA. Keres will be responsible for utilities acquisition, regulatory intervention, functional budget validation for utilities, utilities operation oversight, energy program management, energy conservation, and emergency energy programs at various NNSA sites.
Keres was initially awarded the utility management support services contract in 2005. Since that time, the company has supported ten NNSA facilities including Los Alamos National Laboratories, Kirtland Air Force Base and Waste Isolation Pilot Project.
