|
Columbus, OH / July 13, 2011 / -Miles-McClellan Construction has been awarded the $17 million contract to build the new Marietta College Residence Hall at the corner of Seventh and Putnam streets. The four-story, 105,000-square-foot brick building will feature Georgian-style architecture and incorporate several green-building features.
The new residence hall will house 364 students in traditional dorm rooms and apartments. The design includes a kitchen and dining area for the residents, as well as a health and wellness center. The residence hall will also house the college’s Counseling Center, which will move from Andrews Hall.
The new facility, which was designed by the Design Group in Columbus, will replace Parsons Hall, named for President Edward S. Parsons (1919-36). Parsons Hall opened in 1961 and will be razed after construction is completed on the new building.
Project Manager D.J. Hegarty stated, “We at MilesMcClellan are excited to start this project. We have a solid history with the Design Group and hope that this is the first of many projects our team will complete successfully for Marietta College.”
