Minority-Owned Liberty Power Chosen By Global Company Novo Nordisk for Green Initiatives

Boston, MA / Aug 03, 2011 / -Novo Nordisk, Inc., the global healthcare company known for its innovative leadership in diabetes care, will soon work with one of the largest minority-owned energy firms in the USA. In addition to offering Novo Nordisk significant savings over a two year term, the contract with Liberty Power will offset Novo Nordisk’s entire carbon footprint by minimizing fossil fuel consumption.
In addition to supporting Novo Nordisk’s, diverse supplier initiative, the Fort Lauderdale-based Liberty Power will enable Novo Nordisk’s Princeton, NJ facilities to reduce their carbon footprint by identifying a variety of “green”, renewable energy, options. Through the purchase of renewable energy credits (REC’s) and engaging Liberty Power, Novo Nordisk is now investing in companies that identify alternative energy sources.

Novo Nordisk’s relationship with Liberty Power was initiated as a result of attendance at the National Minority Supplier Diversity Council Expo in Miami in October of 2010, by Bill Hooker, Senior Manager Strategic Sourcing and novoDSI leader. At the Miami Expo Mr. Hooker was introduced to Nelson Reyneri, Vice President, Key Accounts and External Affairs at Liberty Power. Through an RFP process, Novo Nordisk identified three potential suppliers and found that each had defining qualities that would be conducive to the company’s “way” of management which emphasizes social, financial, and environmental responsibility.
One of these suppliers, Liberty Power, is an established nation-wide electricity provider and is also a minority-owned business (MBE). In addition to supporting Novo Nordisk’s, diverse supplier initiative, Liberty Power will enable Novo Nordisk’s Princeton, NJ facilities to reduce their carbon footprint by identifying a variety of “green”, renewable energy, options. All Novo Nordisk facilities, including the LEED Silver certified building located at 1100 Campus Road on the company’s Princeton campus, use many of the “green” programs available in the marketplace. The state-of-the-art building, which was constructed in part with recycled materials, utilizes low-flow plumbing to minimize water consumption and harvests light to minimize electricity consumption. With numerous company-wide recycling programs, Novo Nordisk, Inc. is constantly striving to maintain a best-in-class work environment with the least amount of impact possible on the natural world.
