This chapter will be a forum for exchanging health-related information and legislation between professionals in the fields of business, human resources and medicine. The Maryland Health Care Commission has recently identified several key areas of skyrocketing spending growth among insured Maryland residents. Escalating health insurance costs threaten to weaken the benefits offerings/competitiveness of many companies and lower their profit margin, while simultaneously putting many Maryland employees and their familes at high risk of the perils of unmanaged disease and unmanageable health care debt. This year will mark the 4th consecutive year of double-digit health care inflation and there are no definitive solutions on the horizon. Thus, it is imperative that businesses optimize their knowledge of local, as well as national trends, and develop new strategies to address this burgeoning disaster.
