Las Vegas Minority Chambers of Commerce Host Inaugural Women of Color Conference |
LAS VEGAS, NV, August 23, 2007/ -- DiversityBusiness.com /--The four Las Vegas minority chambers of commerce hosted the inaugural Women of Color Conference: “Empowering Our Future” on August 3, 2007. The participating chambers included the American Indian, Asian, Latin and Urban Chambers of Commerce. The all-day event took place at the Cox Pavilion on the University of Nevada, Las Vegas campus.
According to the Women’s Bureau of the U.S. Department of Labor, there were a record 67 million employed women in the U.S. in 2006, representing 46% of the total U.S. labor force. Additionally, women are projected to account for 47% of the labor force by 2014.
With the theme “Empowering Our Future,” the Women of Color Conference was designed especially for diverse women and emerging leaders who are committed to achieving their highest potential. The day-long event provided leadership, networking and learning opportunities through a variety of workshops. Women of all ethnicities, professions and social backgrounds from throughout Nevada and beyond participated.
“We were proud to host this event along with the other minority chambers of commerce,” said Sandi Saito, Director of Business Development for the Asian Chamber of Commerce. “The Women of Color Conference united and inspired women of all ages and backgrounds in our community.”
The conference took place Friday, August 3, 2007 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and was sponsored by American Family Insurance, MGM MIRAGE and Nevada Power.
