Twenty-two Northrop Grumman Employees Recognized During Annual Black Engineer of the Year Awards Conference
Los Angeles,CA / Feb. 22, 2010 / -- DiversityBusiness.com / Twenty-two Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) employees were among the individuals recognized for their outstanding contributions to engineering and community service excellence at the 2010 Black Engineer of the Year Awards (BEYA) conference in Baltimore on Feb. 18-20.

Denise Christopher Millner, manager for Northrop Grumman Information Technology Solutions' Software Engineering team, was honored with the K-12 Promotion of Education award for a program she founded that encourages and advances high school students' pursuit of technical degrees at the 2010 BEYA conference.

Gloria Pualani, director of Socio-Economic Business Programs/Government Relations for Northrop Grumman, received the Supplier Diversity award for her efforts in helping advance small, women, and minority-owned businesses in the aerospace industry at the 2010 BEYA conference.

Dr. William L. Jones, senior staff scientist/sub project manager in the Microelectronics Product Center at Northrop Grumman's Aerospace Systems sector, received the Trailblazer and Special Recognition awards for his technical expertise in microelectronics at the 2010 BEYA conference.

Among the recipients of individual BEYA honors in separate awards categories were:

Denise Christopher Millner, who was honored with the K-12 Promotion of Education award for a program she founded that encourages and advances high school students' pursuit of technical degrees; Gloria Pualani, who received the Supplier Diversity award for her efforts in helping advance small, women, and minority-owned businesses in the aerospace industry; and Dr. William L. Jones, who received the Trailblazer and Special Recognition awards for his technical expertise in microelectronics.

Christopher Millner, manager for Northrop Grumman Information Technology Solutions' Software Engineering team, was recognized for her work in encouraging high school students to pursue technical degrees. In 1997, she founded and developed the company's WORTHY (Worthwhile to Help School Youth) program, which provides high school students with on-the-job experience and improves their access to secondary education. She earned a bachelor's degree in computer systems management from Drexel University.

Pualani, director of Socio-Economic Business Programs/Government Relations for the company, received the Supplier Diversity award for her advocacy for increasing business development opportunities for minority-owned firms and other classifications of small business. Under her direction, the company has received numerous commendations for its achievement in support of the U.S. Department of Defense Mentor-Protege and Service Disabled Veterans programs. She earned a bachelor's degree from California State University Los Angeles and a master's degree in business administration from National University.

Dr. Jones, senior staff scientist/sub project manager in the Microelectronics Product Center at Northrop Grumman's Aerospace Systems sector, was recognized for his over twenty four years of experience in a variety of microelectronics program and functional management roles. He is the MMIC sub project manager for the Advanced EHF (AEHF) program. AEHF is the nation's next-generation, military strategic and tactical relay system, which will deliver survivable protected communications to U.S. forces and selected allies worldwide. Dr. Jones earned his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and his master's and Ph.D degrees in electrical engineering from Cornell University.

Three other employees Jessie Guice, Jr., Randy Johnson, and Gordon Stewart were recognized with Most Important Blacks in Technology and Business awards for their significant innovations in technology and business.

Additionally, sixteen other Northrop Grumman employees received Modern Day Technology Leaders awards during the BEYA conference in recognition of their individual contributions to help shape the future of engineering, science and technology. The award highlights technology leaders whose stories will inspire other young business leaders.

Award recipients included Pernell Gray and Rosco Newsom from the company's Aerospace Systems sector; Isaac Arega, Allison Bruton, Leroy Daley, Thatcher Howard, Ray Moore and Latoya Spells from the company's Electronic Systems sector; Demetria Petty-Manes and Kenya Williams from the company's Shipbuilding sector; and Ann Nguyen, David Green, Khuong Tang, Kristen Porchea, Michael Boutte, and Monifa White from the company's Information Systems sector.
